Children need positive role models. They need a resource, a confidant, a friend. Someone to help them make positive choices in life. They need someone who will listen. They need a mentor. They need you.
Together, we can make a difference
The Cherice Cochrane Mentoring For Success Foundation is a incorporated non-profit organization with 501(c)3 tax exempt status founded by Miss Claudette Cochrane in memory of her daughter Cherice Amanda Cochrane.
Our Vision
You don’t need any special skills to become a mentor, just a desire to help children reach their full potential.
Mentors are everyday people who:
Mentoring for Success
Cherice Cochrane dedicated her life to mentorship. At the young age of 12, Cherice recruited a group of NAACP Youth Council members and implemented a NAACP Back-To-School, Stay-In-School program at S.H. Gates and MLK Middle Schools. The program continues to this day dedicated to raising the standard of excellence for our youth.
Cherice founded Fit For A Princess, a program to increase self-esteem and confidence in young girls. She saw the need in her community and created a solution. Cherice was just 13 years old when she founded Fit For A Princess.
When Cherice was 15 years old, she published a souvenir Top Teens journal and an award- winning book for the Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated, entitled “Me and My Mentor.” Cherice published the second edition in 1998 and was nearing completion on the third edition.
Cherice’s exemplary leadership and commitment to our community resulted in several local and national awards: Texas Young Achiever of the Year; Girl Scout Silver and Gold Award, Founder Tulane NAACP College Chapter, United Way “Mayor’s Outstanding Youth”, National Achievement Scholarship Program, NAACP Outstanding Leader, and Pre-Freshman Engineering, Honor Graduate for three years running, the Emerging Young Leaders Award, and the National Dean’s List of Outstanding College Students.
Cherice is a 1999 graduate of Judson High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude, secured a total of 20 scholarships along with a $160,000 scholarship to Tulane University. She received the United Way Mayor's Youth Award.
Cherice Cochrane saw needs and addressed it with revolutionary ideas and programs. In 2001, Cherice was attending her sophomore year at Tulane University and unknowingly contracted meningitis. She passed at the age of 19 years old less within 24 hours of contracting meningitis. Her legacy lives on in The Cherice Cochrane Mentoring For Success Foundation.
Miss Claudette Cochrane founded CCF in honor of Cherice and as a way to process her grief and continue to do the work Cherice started. Meningitis Awareness is a huge part of CCF. Today Fit For A Princess is held in March of every year to commemorate Cherice's passing. Mr. Teen San Antonio Mentoring Banquet provides scholarships to high school graduating seniors. Both of these events are now an Official Fiesta San Antonio Event.
We welcome you to all of our opportunities to volunteer, donate, and participate in CCF activities to help keep Cherice Cochrane's legacy alive. Your donations are vital to continuing the work began by Cherice. Your donation can be tax deductible (a donation receipt can be provided.) Thank you for your support!
