At the young age of 12, Cherice recruited a group of NAACP Youth Council members and implemented a NAACP Back-To-School, Stay-In-School program at S.H. Gates and MLK Middle School. The program continues to this day dedicated to raising the standard of excellence for our youth. When Cherice was 15, she published Top Teens souvenir journals and an award- winning book for the Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated, entitled “Me and My Mentor.” Cherice published the second edition in 1998 and was nearing completion on the third edition when she died at the age of 19 years old from meningitis at Tulane University.
